Sky continues online expansion with new portal launch

Oct 18 2007

Sky.com

Sky has launched its new homepage at sky.com, offering a richer portal experience and closer integration between Sky’s growing portfolio of websites. The new portal is the latest stage in the expansion of Sky’s online assets, which are visited by more than 7 million unique UK users each month.

The new sky.com draws upon Sky’s rich content assets across news, sports and entertainment and will offer a deeper online experience with more video, user-generated content and access to communications tools and search. A new video and picture ‘carousel’ on the homepage allows users to watch video clips of the latest news, sport and entertainment news. By presenting Sky’s existing video resources in a more integrated way, the site will drive traffic across the Sky web portfolio and encourage users to develop a deeper and broader relationship with Sky’s online properties.

Sky.com also benefits from Sky’s first of kind alliance with Google, under which communications and search tools are being embedded into Sky’s online assets. Sky.com now offers an entry point into to search and quick log in for ‘Sky Mail’ and ‘Sky Messaging’ for Sky Broadband customers.

The launch of the new homepage continues Sky’s commitment to expansion of its online activities, which has already included the recent launches of sites dedicated to property, dating, motoring and user-generated content. Sky.com is already supported by strong and established online brands such as Sky Sports, Sky News, Sky Showbiz and Sky One.

Industry research shows that Sky’s portfolio of websites continues to extend its online reach and has attracted over 7 million unique UK users every month in the last year. The portfolio reaches up to 34% of the UK’s entire online user base in peak months, according to ComScore.

Andy Jonesco, Managing Director of Sky’s Online Business Unit, comments: “This is a major step in developing our homepage as an online destination and driving traffic across our broader network. By bringing together our best editorial and video with email and search tools, the new Sky.com will be an essential hub for Sky’s growing portfolio.”

Paul Wright, Director, Sky Digital Media, adds: “With strong editorial, dynamic interactive content and an entertainment focus, sky.com is a must visit destination for online audiences. The Sky.com family continues to reach an ever broadening online audience. In creating a homepage destination that highlights the breadth and depth of content we have available, sky.com is becoming an even more attractive destination for users and advertisers alike.”
